One Of The Best Days At a Previous Job

Brought Richard Thompson  into VH1.com one afternoon several years ago. Goose pimples were the paycheck. He’s roaming the country now, touring, among other things, the tunes from his upcoming Dream Attic (Shout! Factory). Here are the dates. What’s your fave RT tune? Mine may be “The Poor Ditching Boy,” or “I Misunderstood.”

I, JUKEBOX

Robbie Fulks, “Ben” (Bloodshot)

Theo Bleckmann, I Dwell In Possibility (Winter & Winter)

Bobby Previte, Claude’s Late Morning (Gramavision)

Kaiser/Noyes/Park, Invite The Spirit (Celluloid)

Jack DeJohnette New Directions, In Europe (ECM)

Charles Lloyd, Mirror (ECM)

Mary Halvorson, Saturn Sings (Firehouse 12)

Michael Jackson, “The Girl Is Mine” (Columbia)

Louis Armstrong, “Ory’s Creole Trombone” (Columbia)

Emmylou Harris, “Feeling Single, Seeing Double” (Warner Bros.)

Porter Wagoner, “Crumbs From Another Man’s Table” (RCA)

Larry Goldings/Harry Allen, When Larry Met Harry (Cafe Society)

I Came To You When No One Could Hear Me

For Holly. Pass it around to your Valentine, too.

Where Are My Companions?

Just heard about an old pal’s passing, and all of a sudden Thompson’s goodbye song was bubbling up. June Tabor brings a proper sobriety to it, does she not?

Grab a loved one and get some hugging done. Turns out we’re not here forever.

You Wouldn’t Want Me Any Other Way…

Kelvin’s got me in an RT mood. He was FaceBooking about Thompson’s gig last night, and I was pondering the guitarist’s ’50s obsession (“Flying Saucer Rock ‘n’ Roll,” “It’ll Be Me,” “High School Confidential,” etc). But when I went looking, I couldn’t get around “Beeswing.” There’s no getting around “Beeswing.”

Here’s the place to check Thompson’s spin on Jerry Lee.
