The Fred Hersch Trio’s Floating album showed up on several 2014 year-end lists, and it has to do with the band’s balance of derring-do and pliable swing – okay maybe their unfaltering lyricism is part of the deal, too. As he does every so often, this week pianist Hersch adds brass and reeds to the equation, widening the interplay options and augmenting the textures. Saxophonist Mark Turner’s agility and trumpeter Ralph Alessi’s adventurousness will dovetail nicely, no doubt, and as a composer, the boss gives them plenty to mess around with. The world has caught on to their chemistry, so reservations might be wise move. Sets are at 8:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
