Let’s get cinematic and call it music made to be listened to in a ’63 ‘Vette while swooping along Mulholland Drive. But hey, between the cagey interplay and lithe swing, it will sound pretty damn fab in a West Village club as well. For the most part, the shared whispers of trumpeter John McNeil and saxophonist Jeremy Udden are super sleek, but they get a grin on by bubbling up the occasional dissonance. As their new Blues and Reds (Sunnyside) reminds, they’re one of the most captivating bands in town.
